DAVE - Domestic Shorthair crossbreed

£135 estimated adoption fee

  • Centre:RSPCA
  • Location:Fareham
  • Breed:Domestic Short-hair
Dave is looking for a very special home indeed. He was previously a flat cat and finds new situations incredibly stressful and his natural reaction has been to hiss at staff if they get to close, especially in his outside run which he sees as his safe space. Due to this we are currently completely hands off with Dave as he really needs to learn to trust people. He has come a long way and is now much more relaxed in our company when out exploring the cattery floor and will now gently take treats from staffs fingers but is still incredibly adverse to being stroked. Even though Dave was previously a flat cat, he has learnt how to use a cat flap while in our care and really enjoys being outside in the fresh air, he might choose to spend more time outside than with his owners when he is fully settled. It is essential Dave has his own unused, large room to initially settle in, that is big enough for him to hide away and not feel compromised when feeding and cleaning his litter tray. He may need months in the room before he explores the rest of the property and eventually garden. He would be prefect for a single person or couple who work full time as the peace and quiet might help him settle more quickly. Dave is really looking for a special home with experienced owners who fully understand cat behaviour and are prepared to give him time and patience to feel comfortable in a home environment. Dave needs to be an only pet in an adult only household. He cannot be homed in the Portsmouth area and his adoption fee is £70.
If you are interested, please fill in a perfect match form (you can find this if you type in ‘RSPCA perfect match’ into google) and send to us at enquiries@rspcasolent.org.uk. You will only be contacted if you are successful. Due to the current lockdown, we will only be doing remote adoptions so you will not be able to meet the cat at the shelter prior to adoption. We will discuss the cat in more detail over the phone and send you video(s) of the cats behaviour while in our care.
