Keeping Monty’s bright, busy brain occupied and providing an outlet for his energy has a hugely positive impact on his behaviour. He is particularly fond of exploring the great outdoors in rural areas and would be keen to walk for a few hours each day. His other most-loved pastimes include tucking into frozen kongs, solving food-based enrichment puzzles, and playing with his toys! He absolutely LOVES to receive new toys, so surprising him with a gift on occasion will certainly get his tail wagging. Once you know Monty well, he’ll enjoy cuddles on the sofa in the evening (on his own terms) and spending plenty of time by your side. Ultimately, Monty’s ideal adopters would be people who are patient, willing to work with him on some training, just as active as he is, and who can always be around at home to keep him company.

One-year-old Monty is an active-natured Shih Tzu with plenty of character. While he is a fun-loving chap with a zest for life, he does have a sensitive side, and will need an understanding family who can support him while he settles into his new routine. As well as adapting to change, Monty can become overwhelmed around loud noises, busy places, and animated humans. We feel he would be best suited to an adult-only family who could keep things calm and consistent for him. Monty plays beautifully with other dogs that match his playstyle, but he struggles to understand social cues from dogs that aren’t as enthusiastic. Therefore, he will need support from his humans to continue building positive social experiences and to move on when another dog doesn’t wish to interact. He could have well-suited walking buddies, but Monty must be the only pet at home. Monty has been diagnosed with Coprophagia (or Pica), the medical term for dogs eating other animals' faeces or non-food items. This is something that will need to be managed by keeping a close eye on him after he does his business, or when he’s out on his walks.
