Nanook - male Akita

In typical Akita fashion, Nanook can appear a little aloof at first but once he has gotten all of the exploring out of the way, he enjoys coming over to say hello. He's a very friendly boy with everyone he meets, yet he prefers not to be handled too much. His adopters should respect his need for space and allow him to move away if he wishes. Nanook can find it challenging to see dogs out and about so is ideally looking for adopters who can walk him in low dog-populated areas where he won't bump into dogs unexpectedly. Nanook is a wonderful boy who will thrive in an Akita-loving home. You won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can tell us what type of dog you’re looking for. You can also add up to four favourites to your application to give us an idea of the dogs you like, so we can consider you for similar dogs. Once you’ve submitted your application, we can’t change or update your favourites. Adding a dog to your application is not a reservation but a guide for us to find you a match.

Nanook is a gorgeous eight-year-old Akita who was found as a stray. He is searching for a home where he can be the only pet and where the youngest children are older secondary school aged who are sensible around dogs. Nanook can be very strong on lead and has a high prey drive, so his adopters should be confident with handling a big dog when out on a walk. Nanook will need to be kept on a lead and muzzled in public so he would like a garden to enjoy off-lead time and his adopters should be around for the majority of the day to help him settle in.
