Gracie (Was Drummer) - Female Beagle

10-02-24 Gracie came to us from a breeder back in November 2022 when she was just 7 months old. She was extremely frightened of everyone and everything and would do anything she could to get away from us. We’ve worked very hard with her since then and she has come on massively in confidence, especially with her carer at the rescue who she now completely trusts. She definitely is still wary of new people and new surroundings, but it doesn’t take her too long to come around. We’ve noticed that she takes to younger women a lot quicker than anyone else, and she does still have trust issues with men in particular. When she knows you and she’s comfortable with you, she is a complete and utter cuddle monster who just wants to be on your lap having fusses, but that trust does need to be earned with her. She did get adopted for a couple of months, but she really struggled with a man being in the home and couldn’t settle with him at all, so the best thing for her was to come back to us. Because of this, we are looking to home Gracie as an only dog, in a female only household. She does like to play with other dogs, but she doesn’t like to share her space and her things with them which is why she’ll need to be the only dog. When dogs are scared of strangers like Gracie is, we usually like them to be homed with a resident dog, but because we can’t do this with Gracie we do need to find her an experienced home with people who will work with her on her fear of change/new things. Her home needs to be a calm environment that will allow her to decompress and take everything in, especially at the beginning because she will be very overwhelmed. When she is settled and content, she will more than likely be a typical Beagle who will be into anything and everything and will need a lot of stimulation/positive training to keep her satisfied.
