24-04-24 Dupree is one very special girl and has stolen many peoples hearts here at the rescue as she has a special story. She came to us from a breeder back in February with other Bulldog breeds and was quite poorly when she arrived, but now she is feeling much better and is ready to find her forever home. Dupree originally was very underweight and was unable to keep any food down. She has had extensive medical testing done to try and get to the root of this cause and help her. She has had various medical tests including MRI’s, swallow tests and blood tests along with x-rays which showed that she had a form of megaesophagus. Although this gave us some answers unfortunately no operation could be done to help her as the location was before her heart and not after it. She was prescribed some medication and we crossed our fingers and prayed for a miracle. Fast forward to today and she has been in a lovely foster home where they have figured out a way to feed her; and worked miracles. They’ve come up with strict feeding regimes and followed them daily and she now manages to keep her food down and has started to enjoy life to the fullest! The way Dupree is fed is described as a ‘mother bird feeding her offspring’ and she’s currently fed 3 times a day. After she has eaten, she then goes on the table and stands upright to aid her food going down. This takes about 10 minutes in total but it's vital this this is continued in her new home. Dupree has gained enough weight that she was able to be spayed and at the same time she had a nasal wedge resection to widen her airways and allow her to breathe better. She also had to have part of her tail amputed as it was abnormal and causing her issues. She also had two teeth extracted and is receiving eye drops which will need to be ongoing. Although Dupree is doing much better and our vets have now signed her off, should any illnesses reoccur in the future in relation to this it would not be covered by insurance as it would be classed as a pre-existing illness, so her adopters would need to be in the financial position to afford this. Dupree has always been around other dogs and loves them and so we would like there to be another kind dog in her new home to keep her company and help her to settle in to her new home. She is very confident around people and will jump with joy when she sees you! She adores kissy noises and has the cutest body wiggle when she greets you. She spends the majority of her day sleeping, or playing with dog toys, so the resident dog would need to be welcoming and not too bouncy. We would consider homing her with older dog savvy children. Dupree is learning to walk on a lead and harness and with encouragement she’s getting there. She tries her best to be clean in the house but can struggle to hold wees over night. She sleeps well throughout the night and loves cuddling up with her doggy friends. We are looking for a home for her who is just as special as she is. Her adopters would need to have lots of time to spend with her and be dedicated to her feeding regime. She is such a wodnerful girl and we want to give her the best life possible after the rough start she’s had. If you can offer her what she needs then please apply.
