To keep this lively boy entertained, toys a his go to source of joy. Whether it’s a game of fetch or a good chew session, Charlie is always up for some playful fun. This can eclipse his socialization with other dogs because although he can mix with other dogs, he would rather chase a football! Charlie certainly has the Huntaway bark and it comes out when he sees other dogs, he can be reactive. Food is the best thing ever according to Charlie, making training sessions even more rewarding. Charlie is very clever, he loves learning new things and we’ve seen that small positive sessions boost his confidence hugely. Once Charlie feels comfortable with people, he has a very affectionate side and likes to rest his chin on your lap for gentle fusses.

Charlie is a three year old New Zealand Huntaway crossbreed who’s active and thrives on the love of his known people, playing fetch and learning new things. Charlie has been at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury for a while as he’s a complex character who needs a special home with a family who understand his quirks. Charlie is a true project dog , being worried of most things means he’s got some areas which cause him anxiety such as he’s uncertain when it comes to handling. He quickly becomes suspicious and loses trust if new people move too fast. Charlie doesn’t enjoy car travel and is very hesitant of getting into cars and lasty, he has shown a history of resource guarding. Our fabulous training team and Charlie’s main handlers have been working with Charlie to combat these and he’s been doing so well! Our training team will be on hand to support Charlie’s new family before and after Charlie goes home. Given his high activity levels and nervous nature, a rural setting, a household without other pets and children of secondary school age would be an ideal match for Charlie.
