  • Breed:Japanese Shiba Inu
Pixie is an energetic, playful and sensitive 2 year old Shiba Inu who hasn’t had the best start in life and is looking for her first home as a loved family pet. She is a bit worried about the world and finds new places and noises very scary, looking for lots of reassurance from other dogs and her handlers. She enjoys treats and her dinners, taking treats gently from your hand once she knows you and eating them nicely. Although she doesn’t have any formal training at the moment, she has the potential to be a real clever clogs with lots of positive, reward based training. She needs a little time to get to know new people as she is a little bit worried at first, but with some tasty treats, time to sniff and with gentle encouragement she soon comes around and once she does she is a sweet and affectionate little lady. With time, patience and understanding, she will make such a lovely, fun companion to a very lucky home.

PIxie is looking for a patient and understanding home who have the time to dedicate to settling her in and giving her all the support she needs to adjust to her new life. Ideally we are looking for adopters with previous experience owning a dog or some with breed knowledge. Pixie is a little bit worried about the world and although not essential, she would benefit from a home with a calm and playful dog to help show her the ropes and give her confidence as she learns about life as a family pet. She will be best suited to a quieter home with older children aged 16 years and over who understand that Pixie might be worried about lots of loud noise and sudden movements so will need a calm and gentle approach to interactions and handling. She will need her own secure and private garden for her toilet training and for pottering and playing. She will need all her basic training and owners who will continue socialising her with other dogs. Pixie doesn’t enjoy being left on his own very much and will need lots of company in her new home while he settles in with gradual introductions to being left as she gets used to her new life. She would also benefit from minimal visitors when she first goes home so she can relax in her environment without too much pressure. Pixie will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home to build a strong bond and she may need visits from our behaviour team once he goes home so adopters will need to live within 45 minutes driving distance from the Canterbury Rehoming Centre so please bear this in mind prior to applying for her. If you rent your property, please have written permission from your landlord ready once you have submitted your application to avoid delays, as it will be required early on in the rehoming process if you are shortlisted.
