Ivan - Male Portuguese Podengo

07-02-24 Ivan originally came to us several years ago after being rescued from Portugal. He found a wonderful home but sadly he has been returned to us after his owner passed away. He has a Grade 1 heart murmur and has previously had both of his patellas operated on but can suffer with stiff legs sometimes. He can suffer from itchy feet from time to time. Ivan is a super friendly dog who is very cuddly and we are told that he is very much a lap dog. He loves people and gets along with other dogs too. Despite how wonderful he is, he does show signs of resource guarding around food and has in the past nipped, so he will be looking for an adult only home where there are no visiting children and with adopters who have experience with resource guarding. We are also told that he can chase cats, small furries and livestock so he will need a very secure garden and will only be able to be let off lead in secure areas. We are told that he is house trained but he might need some reminders of this in his new home. Ivan walks well on a lead, knows a few tricks and seems to be a very obedient boy. He is confident enough to be homed as an only dog in the right cirucmstances, but we would consider homing him with other dogs. He really is a great boy and in the right home he will truly thrive, so please don't leave him waiting too long.
