Maria - Female German Shepherd Dog

£200 estimated adoption fee

  • Centre:German Shepherd Rescue
  • Location:Hereford
  • Sex:Female
  • Breed:German Shepherd Dog
This pretty girl is Maria born on 20/02/17 who arrived on the happy bus with her passport and is now looking for her forever home.

Every year GSDR help some dogs escape the horrors of eastern Europe where appalling cruelty is shown to mans' best friend. For the lucky few this means a wonderful life in family homes where they learn what it is like to be loved and cared for.

This dog has been through so much and has even survived the dreaded parvo.

We believe Maria may be an Anatolian Shepherd cross so potential adopters should research this breed before applying to adopt her. She is medium-sized around 35 Kgs.

Maria is a really sweet girl who loves to play and she is very affectionate with people she knows.

She is very choosy about other dogs, doesn't get on with most females and she would chase cats. She does have an issue with food possession when other dogs are around.

Maria was spayed on 9th May 2018 and staff at the vets commented on what a lovely temperament she had, she was friendly with staff and other dogs in the practice. They couldn't believe at that time that she had not already been snapped up and adopted.

Maria loves a fuss, likes to be with you but she is a little wary initially of strangers.

Maria was rehomed nearly 2 years ago but came back recently because her owners claimed she had attacked the neighbour and bit her hand. Her owners were going to take her to be put to sleep but we stopped that and immediately picked up Maria and took her back into our care. We didn't believe that Maria should lose her life over one incident, the details of which are sketchy.

Both before she was adopted and since she has been back with us, Maria has shown no sign of aggression towards humans, if anything she is very submissive and wary of people she doesn't know. She is still very food possessive so that needs to be handled carefully.

Maria came back into our care overweight, flabby and judging by her reactions to exercise she has not had much in the last 2 years and we don't believe she has been off lead. The first time we let her off in a field she shot off like a bat out of hell running round and round but tired very quickly.

We have not seen anything in Maria's behaviour that concerns us but think it best that she go into either an adult only home or one with teenage children only. She would be better as an only dog.

Can you give Maria that second chance?
